Margarita (2012)

When illegal Mexican nanny Margarita is fired by her cash-strapped yuppie employers, it sets in motion a chain of events that leaves her torn between loyalties and the law. Desperately in love, but feeling rejected by her commitment-phobic girlfriend, Margarita becomes resigned to starting a new life back home in Mexico. The family quickly discovers that Margarita’s modest salary is the only good investment they’ve ever made and hatches a series of ill-conceived schemes to keep her in the country. Suddenly, it seems like everyone wants to save Margarita – everyone, that is, except the one person who can actually save her.

Finn’s Girl (2007)

When her lover Nancy dies, Dr. Finn Jeffries’s ordered life begins to spiral away from her. She’s left to helm the abortion clinic that was Nancy’s life work and is under increasingly violent attack by a radical anti-abortion group. At the same time, her own fertility research is failing and she is losing confidence in her ability to connect to her rebellious step-daughter. As the tough-as-nails physician founders in her grief, hope comes from an unlikely source.

DOCUMENTARIES

My Feminism (1997)

MY FEMINISM is a critically important look at second wave feminism in the 1990’s, a time rife with anti-feminist backlash. Powerful interviews with feminist leaders including bell hooks, Gloria Steinem, and Urvsahi Vaid are intercut with documentary sequences to engagingly explore the past and present and future status of the women’s movement. Discussing the unique contributions of second wave feminism, they explore their racial, economic and ideological differences and shared vision of achieving equality for women. An essential component of women’s studies curricula, MY FEMINISM introduces feminism’s key themes while exposing the cultural fears underlying the lesbian baiting, backlash, and political extremism which informed feminist dialogues in the 90’s, some of which continues to this day.

My Feminism is essential viewing. A wonderful introductory film for Women’s Studies and other classes, it beautifully presents the key concepts and diversity of feminism.”
Joseph Boles Women’s Studies, Northern Arizona University

Inclusive of various and often contradictory points of view, THANK GOD I’M A LESBIAN successfully proposes an alternate vision of self and community that is realistic and positive. This fast-paced documentary was edited by Geraldine Peroni who was nominated for an Academy Award for The Player.
